One of the meanings of the name Pacal Votan is “The closest to the Cycle”, indicating the coming of the Great Cycle of Time, which ends at the winter solstice, 21st of December 2012. Thus, the prophecies of this Maya prophet-king from the seventh century have a special meaning.
The prophecies of Pacal Votan indicate the end of the current era of Earth, in 2012. The prophecies does not talk about a catastrophically experience, but of the Earth transformation and spiritual evolution of people. The prophecy about the return of the Supreme Being or Teacher talks about the return of Quetzalcoatl, known in Maya’s mythology as Kukulcan. Yet, there is a theory, increasingly talked about, that it won’t be a real return or a reincarnation, but people themselves shall assume the attributes of the Supreme Being, through their spiritual evolution, reaching to overcome the object-subject duality. It is a prophecy which finds its equivalent in all religions.
Mayas’ teachers give a slight different interpretation to the return of Kukulcan and to its semnification. They consider that a more extensive interpretation and a lesser literary one should be more appropriate for the message. Thus, the prophecy is not interpreted as a return of the old god but as a
